soft point rounds, and EBR calls them "match".

I see the EBR rounds are loaded with Sierra's 63gr. I've never tried to wrap my brain around this subject, I've always decided that if I needed a truly silent weapon, I'd stick with something in. Or what about using a very slow burning powder, such as RL-19, RL-22, or even slower? This would fill the case more with powder, but keep velocity low.

pills to help with the problem of free space in the case? I was thinking of perhaps using the 80 or 90gr. He's shooting a 16" RRA with a 1/7" twist. We now run it on Bluedot and it is pretty good.I know this topic has been kicked around many many times, and I have tried the search function before posting, but can't find the data I am looking for.Ī friend of mine just got a suppressor, and he wants me to load him some subsonic ammo, for s's and g's basically. When we swithed to a harder lead (search - KEAD Bullets) the accuracy went to shit and we couldn't find a 231 load that it like. We used to load 8.8 of 231 (IIRC) under a 240 swc lead and I can't recall case fill %. How much case fill do you have with 7.5 of 231? bullet using Titegroup, HP-38, 231 ( these two are actually the same powder), and Universal. There are starting loads that are under the speed of sound for a jacketed 240 gr. Or look at hodgdon's online reloading resource and plug in. My experience is that 231 doesn't gain much velocity when shot from a longer barrel, so this may be a very good starting load for you. from a 7.5" S&W using a Sierra JHP over 7.5 gr. Keep in mind that burn rates are relative to each and the difference in rate is not consistent from one to another. The powders are listed from fastest to slowest. Also, I have no clue as to what is a fast powder and what is slow.Ĭheck any load manual, or just google "gunpowder burn rate chart". I do have a variety of powders and would like known good loads for those willing to divulge. While grouping under an inch from a 16' barrel with Gemtech Sandstorm, the chrony read.5499, 5497, 5500, 5503, 5507 (5 shots). Because time has been short, this trip and last, I am using Federal Premium 150gr NBT instead of home rolled. Now the weird part, I brought my DPMS LR308 just to check the POI as I am going after a axis this weekend and decided to chrony the ammo I am using. Regardless, at those velocities I will not put them through the YHM Cobra. WLP, 1.61 OAL, fair crimp.Īccording to a Hornady manual, the 4227 rounds seemed high FPS wise for that load. 17.4 grains was sub MOA accurate if you discount the first round in the 4 shot group (higher velocity = high POI). velocities respectively ranged from 1040 to near 1200 FPS as the charge climbed. Also I noticed that the 4227 seemed to be inconsistent on velocities. When I started shooting the 4227 loads (17.0, 17.2, 17.4, 17.6, 17.8) with the XTP's, the first shot would chrony 50 or so FPS faster than the next 3 shots, every time. Chronied at around 1185 (avg) but strangley the first shot from a reloaded mag (cooler barrel?) would go 1145-1150 FPS and the next 3 shots would be around 1182 - 1191 FPS, every time. I sighted the 77/44 using some existing 44 loads of 240 gr SWC lead over 12.0 gr of bluedot. No noticable damage to the chrony as it was about 8 feet away. GarrettJ - You are right about the 4227 (IMR) as I had put a couple of pieces of tape on the chrony rods and they had powder burns on them. I am not sure that the chrony was reading properly, I will explain in a bit. I made the trip to the range this morning. Some of the integral suppressed guns use a custom fast-twist barrel because of this. They are useable for bullet weights up to 240 gr. My barrel is only 7.5", but the silencer adds another 12" of length, and I've noted significant velocity increases from freebore boost while the bullet is still traveling through the silencer.Įta: from what I've read, the factory Ruger. I need the extra gas volume to cycle a semi-auto. 44s, I have to use a slower powder such as AA#9 or H110. For a bolt-action rifle, I would start with this or a similar powder.įor my subsonic. 45 Colt which has a similar case capacity. I've had good results using Win 231 for subsonic. This translates to less gas volume for the can to deal with, which often results in less noise. Faster powders require a lower charge weight (volume) to achieve the same velocity, when compared to a slower powder. I would imagine you will get a similar result on the baffles of your silencer.Īlso for suppressed use, I've found that faster powders tend to give quieter results. I also managed to "sandblast" the front of a chronograph using this powder. It's dirty, and throws unburned particles all over the place, as well as leaving them inside the action.
